• Shave biopsy is a commonly performed procedure, but attention to technique is important. Understand your depth, use 3 point tension, and use a fluid, wave-like motion with a clearly defined entry and exit point.
• When performing an elliptical excision, avoid beveling the wound edges by holding the scalpel perpendicular to the skin.
• When designing a wound closure, anatomy, skin tension, and free margins should be taken into account.
