Saturday, April 25 – Bridging Dermatology & Rheumatology
Saturday focused on the intersection of dermatology and rheumatology, beginning with Dr. Jason Hawkes, who explored the immunopathogenesis of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
Dr. Shikha Singla followed with a session emphasizing interdisciplinary management strategies and highlighting the importance of collaboration across specialties. Attendees also had access to smaller sessions, including one led by Stephanie Simmerman, NP, focused on research and abstract insights.
After a coffee break, Lakshi Aldredge, NP, joined Dr. Shikha Singla to discuss optimizing rheumatology referrals, including which information is most valuable and how to improve coordination of care.
Late morning featured Dr. Jason Hawkes again, presenting advancements in therapeutics for dermatology and rheumatology providers. Following lunch, he continued with a forward-looking discussion on the relationship between metabolic pathways and skin health. In parallel, Stephanie Simmerman, NP, led a session on operational efficiency, sharing practical strategies for managing patients on systemic therapies.
The afternoon concluded with complex case discussions led by Dr. Jason Hawkes and Dr. Shikha Singla, followed by an interactive panel featuring Dr. Hawkes, Buchi Neita, PA-C, and Veronica Richardson, NP, on the role of PDE-4 inhibitors in dermatology, which capped the day with a lively, real-time exchange among faculty and attendees.
