Passion Project - Buchi Neita

My Passion

Buchi Neita, MS, PA-C

I often reflect on my path to becoming a dermatology physician assistant. Dermatology was my final clinical rotation during PA school. Although I enjoyed my experiences in other specialties, including ER, OB-GYN, and surgery, it did not take long to realize dermatology was the field for me. I was fortunate to have trained in South Florida, where I could help care for such a diverse population of patients. We treated acute and chronic diseases, from mild to very severe, in every age, gender, race, and social background. I worked with two incredible dermatology providers who made such a positive impact on the lives of their patients. I vividly remember ending that rotation feeling excited, inspired, and blessed to have found my passion.

Upon completing my PA program, I learned that dermatology opportunities for newly graduated physician assistants were scarce and competitive. With fierce persistence, I was able to secure my first job as a PA in the field I loved most. Though the early years were challenging and the learning curve steep, I truly enjoyed forming strong connections with my patients and guiding them through their treatment journeys.

One of the most exciting aspects of working in this field has been the constant opportunity for learning and growth as a clinician. With such a wide range of conditions to manage and the continuous development of innovative diagnostics and treatments, there is always something new to learn, and I appreciate having the opportunity to sharpen my clinical knowledge and skills.

In the last several years of my career, I have developed a strong interest in lifestyle medicine, which focuses on preventing chronic disease and utilizing lifestyle modifications to promote long-term wellness. With the skin being arguably one of the most important organ systems, it is imperative that patients are provided with more comprehensive, holistic care. I love providing patient education, advising them on how to incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives, and offering tools to help support their goals toward healthier living. I strive to provide a safe and encouraging environment for my patients and to empower them to take charge of their health.

One of the most unexpected yet rewarding aspects of my career has been building close relationships with my peers, medical assistants, staff, and students and helping to inspire and encourage them to strive for great things. It is very fulfilling to see those around me achieve their goals, and I hope to continue to uplift and cheer them on their path to excellence. I am grateful for the honor and privilege to serve as a dermatology PA, and I look forward to continuing to positively impact the lives of those I care for.
