From Bud to Breakthrough: The Therapeutic Potential and Current Landscape of Cannabinoids in Dermatology by Adam Friedman MD
- Endocannibinoids originate from the human body and are arachodonic acid derivatives. Cannabinoid agonists (phytocannibinoids or synthetic cannibinoids) can bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors at nerve synapsis, reducing pain, itching, and inflammation.
- CB1 receptor gates propogation of pain signals in the central nervous system. CB2 receptor activation exerts their effects on the immune system, decreasing inflammation.
- CBD, unlike THC derived from the cannabis plant, is not psychoactive.
