New Combo Treatment PLLA and Fractional CO2 Laser: Hope for Acne Scars
A New Combo Treatment of PLLA and Fractional CO2 Laser Offers Hope for Acne Scars
Treating acne scars has always been a tough battle, with the CO2 fractional laser once considered the gold standard, but with limitations to efficacy results. A new study now shows that combining this laser treatment with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injections significantly enhances cosmetic outcomes, with minimal adverse effects and no additional downtime.
Researchers divided 60 patients into two groups: one received only laser treatment, while the other had laser treatment followed by PLLA injections at months 1, 3, and 5. After 6 months, the combination group showed better scar improvement, particularly for rolling and boxcar scars, and reported higher satisfaction scores, as indicated by both investigator and patient ratings. Side effects were mild and temporary. This study demonstrates that the combination approach of CO2 laser and PLLA could be a more effective and safer solution for treating stubborn acne scars.
