Does Aspirin Increase Risk of Bleeding in Patients Undergoing Skin Lesion Excision: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the risk of postoperative bleeding in patients continuing aspirin therapy during cutaneous surgery. Analyzing data from 20 studies covering 26,860 procedures, the results showed a statistically significant increase in the risk of any bleeding (OR 1.39) and severe bleeding (OR 2.46) in patients on aspirin. However, moderate bleeding, infection, and wound dehiscence rates were not significantly affected. The findings suggest that while aspirin use does increase bleeding risk, particularly for severe cases, the overall impact on wound healing complications is limited.
