Pediatric Hidradenitis Suppurativa Linked to Multiple Health Conditions

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) often begins in childhood or adolescence and leads to pain and scarring. A recent meta-analysis of 19 studies involving over 17,000 pediatric HS patients reveals that children with HS frequently face additional health challenges—most commonly acne (43%), obesity (37%), anxiety (18%), and hirsutism (14%). The study also found links to depression and diabetes, though evidence for the latter is less certain.

These findings underscore the importance of early recognition of the comorbidities of HS and a multidisciplinary care approach to manage both HS and its associated physical and mental health impacts.
