Brandi Hernandez, PA-C, is interviewed by Allie McAllister, FNP-C about her experience as an Elevate-Derm Conference attendee at the Fairmont Austin in November 2021

Brandi Hernandez, PA-C, tells Allie McAllister that she isn't a new PA — she practiced family and emergency medicine for five years — but she's relatively new to dermatology, having "seen the light" and made the move last year. She admits she never thought dermatology would suit her, but once she gave it a chance, that changed.
Working for US Dermatology Partners, which has a large presence at the conference in both faculty and attendance, she heard about Elevate from her colleagues. She came to network with peers — something she'd missed — and to stay up to date on the newest dermatology treatments. Her favorite lectures so far have been anything by Dr. Rosen, whom she calls a brilliant provider who's funny and easy to listen to.
- Coming into derm from another specialty is doable — Hernandez practiced family and emergency medicine for five years before switching.
- She never expected dermatology to fit her, but changed her mind once she gave it a chance.
- Networking with colleagues was a top reason she attended — a connection she'd been missing.
- Staying current on the newest dermatology treatments is "always needed."
- Dr. Rosen's lectures were her favorite for being both brilliant and easy to listen to.
